Canon PIXMA TR8620a review

A compromise with a clear purpose

Many households do not want separate printers for tax forms, school projects and photographs. The TR8620a is interesting because it brings those jobs together without relying on a single combined color cartridge. Write down which task is most important and accept that the others are secondary. A compact mixed-use machine should be judged as a compromise, rather than expected to equal a specialist office or photographic system at everything.

Individual inks change replenishment

Replacing one color at a time can suit a family whose photographs and projects use colors unevenly. It also creates several cartridges to keep available. Record the exact compatible supply numbers and compare a full set as well as individual replacement prices. An individual-ink arrangement is a useful feature; it does not by itself demonstrate a lower running cost or establish how long your particular photos will take to empty a color.

Keep document expectations specific

The feeder is relevant for a short stack of loose originals, and automatic print duplex helps with reading packs. Check the scanning procedure separately if the originals have two sides. Also consider whether fax and Ethernet are tasks you will actually use. A household might gain more from a well-positioned flatbed and a reliable mobile setup than from functions that remain unused after installation.

Who should consider it

Choose the TR8620a for moderate mixed use when both photographs and home-office documents have a genuine role. Compare a tank if output is becoming regular and a dedicated photo model if larger prints are the goal. This verdict draws on Canon’s specifications and editorial reasoning. We have not independently measured tonal reproduction, cartridge yield, feed performance or the speed of real household jobs.
